The oldest processed golden treasure of the world was found in Varna in October 1972
The treasure was discovered by chance in October 1972 while digging a canal in the industrial zone of Varna, not far from the lake. The discovery was made by the then 22-year-old excavator Raycho Marinov. During the excavation activities, he noticed metal objects and stone tools in the excavated soil at a depth of 1.40 meters.
In this way, Marinov discovered one of the ancient graves, which later turned out to be about 300. The members of Marinov's family were the first with whom he shared what he had found. After the valuable find became known to the authorities, measures were taken to ensure that the place and the discovered objects remained a well-kept secret.
